Two volumes, both 8º, xiii, 498 pp. [8 pp.], 489 pp., [62 pp.], contemporary full calf, dark red morocco spine labels with gold lettering, speckled edges (light scuffing to the corners of the bindings, first and last leaves with light brown glue-staining from the boards in margins, collector’s rubber stamps “Ex-Libris E. de Greiz” on both front free endpapers, both title pages with library stamps, crossed over with canceled stamps and date of a deaccession April 26, 2012, a small paper deformation with a tiny loss of white margin on pp. 477-478, sporadic words underlined).

After the first edition of this legendary work by the Scottish economist and moral philosopher Adam Smith (1723–1790) was published in 1776, only four additional editions were released during his lifetime, each containing minor corrections made by him. The edition at hand is the fourth edition, bound in decorative contemporary calf.
