Description

Rare small view shows Alexandria in Egypt. In the upper margin annotations in English from ca 1700.

Issued in ‘Nuova raccolta di le piu illustri et famose citta di tutto mondo’ by Francesco Valegio and Martino Rota. The work was printed right after the publication of the famous Braun’s and Hogenberg’s Civitates orbis terrarum and based several views upon it. The number of plates varies with each volume. Most of the engravings were signed by Valegio, whose name is usually associated with the work. Some engravings are signed by the Croatian engraved Martino Rota and many remain anonymous.

The work is very rare on the market and is usually incomplete. The views were not numbered and are sorted alphabetically or by countries. Around 250 views from this work are known today.
