This is a rare first Armenian translation of Stefan Zweig’s last novella Schachnovelle (The Royal Game or Chess Story), published in Istanbul.
The text was first published in a limited edition of 300 examples 1942 in Buenos Aires. The first European edition was in issued in Stockholm in 1943 and the first English one a year later in New York.
Germany only issued the book as a pocket edition in 1974, making it a classic bestseller.
Due to the political situation of Armenia in the 1970, when it was a part of the Soviet Union, many translations to Armenian would be first made by the diaspora.
