This is a first edition of a text on Turkey by a Swiss diplomat and historian Carl Jacob Burckhardt (1891 – 1974), later known for his biographies and texts on history.

The book was printed by Bremer Press in Munich in 1925. The publishing house, which moved its seat from Bremen, through Bad Tölz to Munich from 1911-1934, was specialised in high quality hand printed publications in limited editions.

This example was contemporary bound to a tasteful half vellum binding with hand printed boards.
