Description

A large drawing showing butterflies, moths and insects, was made in 1902, in the style of Art Nouveau.

The style, also known as Jugendstil oder Secession, was an international style of art, architecture and applied art, most popular between 1890 and 1910.

The drawing was signed by W. Thomas, an artist we could not trace in the literature, but probably belongs to the school of south Germany or Austria, with centers in Munich and Vienna. These two major cultural cities produced a large number of artists, trained to design everything from larger architecture to smaller decorative objects in the new style.

Insects and butterflies were a popular motive on the friezes and facades, as well as the forms of jewelry.
