Description

Toned lithography with original hand-colour, contemporarily mounted on card with full black finish and gum arabic highlights (parts of printed titles mounted on the back and in the margin above, edges slightly rubbed, hardly noticeable stained, otherwise in a good condition), 43 x 52 cm (16.9 x 20.5 inches).

Magnificent large lithographic view with original colour and highlights shows the Königssee in the south Bavaria in Germany.

The lithograph is based on a contemporary painting by Johann Fischbach (1797 Grafenegg – 1871 Munich), who is considered one of the most important representatives of the Austrian Biedermeier style. Fischbach studied paintint at Academy of Fine Arts Vienn under Joseph Mössmer (1780-1845) and won the Grand Prize for landscape painting in 1821. He moved to Salzburg in 1840 and spent the last years of his life in Munich, where he died in 1871.

The view was originally published as toned lithography. This example has been contemporarily hand-coloured with stunnung colours and mounted on a card. The originaly black margins have the effect of having definition and majesty of the view.
