Small 8°, 184 pp. lithographed text with 8 illustrations and floral lithographed full-page decoration on first and last page, original brown goat with a ghost of a paper label on the spine (binding crudely executed with too short boards, contemporary soft folds, detached from the body of the book and with cracks around the spine, first and last pages slightly stained and dusty with tiny tears in margins, otherwise internally clean with one uncut page) (#70648).

Description

A handsome small-format book in Persian language contains 8 illustrations and a version of the love story of Shirin and Farhad, better known in the variation of the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi (1141–1209) Khosrow and Shirin. The examples is bound in a crude, but charming contemporary binding.

As the book does not have an imprint, nor a title, we could not find any other examples in institutions. We also could not trace any comparable examples in the bibliography of Persian illustrated lithographed books Ulrich Marzolph, Narrative illustration in Persian lithographed books, 2001.
