Description
The chart represents the history of time from the creation of the world, according to the print, approximately 4000 BC. The flow of time is represented as a river, which gained popularity in similar prints during the 19th century.
This print is based on Sebastian Adams’s renowned chart, originally printed in New York (for more detailed information, refer to the David Rumsey Collection: Composite: Adams’ Synchronological Chart – David Rumsey Historical Map Collection). It was printed in Guadalajara in 1882, during a period marked by the rise of an educated middle class in Mexico and a growing demand for a sophisticated and diverse print culture that followed Euro-American trends. Importantly, it also includes details significant to the history of Mexico
This is a rare first edition. Further, enlarged editions were published in in 1884 and 1907.
The chart should not be confused with the Tabla Sincronológica de Historia Universal by Sebastian C. Adams, which is a Spanish version of Adams’s map published in New York.
