[The Arena. At the Occasion of the Fortuities Visit of His Majesty the Emperor Ferdinand on September 1838]
Large 4°, X with copper engraved title page and vignette, [1] blank, contemporary yellow spine (covers slightly dusty, a narrow stripe in a blank space cut out (name of the owner?) and repaired with old paper, otherwise in a good condition).
The first and only edition of a separately published poem Die Arena, was written in Verona by Leopold von Neuwall at the occasion of a visit of Ferdinand I of Austria (1793 – 1875).
The author Leopold von Neuwall (1810-1867) was an Austrian nobleman of Jewish origins, a doctor or law and a the time a provincial official for Verona. Later he became one of the five Austian Jewish members of the pariament of the Holy Roman empire in Frankfurt, representing the district of Brno (Ernest Hamburger, Juden im öffentlichen Leben Deutschlands… 1848-1918, 1968, p. 172).
We could only find one institutional copy (Biblioteca Civica di Rovereto).
