Description
This is the first Slovenian translation of Kerouac’s celebrated novel On the Road, published in 1967, with Pohlen’s stunning photomontage artwork, featuring a combination of photographs of rocks, cars and drawings of portraits.
The present work was published in Koper, a city close to the Pohlen’s home village, in Slovenia’s warm coastal region, which in the late 1960s and 1970s heartily embraced the hippie movement.
Designer Jože POHLEN(1926-2005)
Pohlen was an academic sculptor, schooled at the Art Institute in Florence and Art Academy in Ljubljana. He was often inspired by his birth village, Hrastovlje, in Istria, where he spent all his adult life.
In 1948, Pohlen discovered in the local church gothic Dance Macabre frescoes, which are today recognized as one of the greatest historical art treasures of Slovenia, and one of the world’s most renown works of their kind.
