Description
Rare 16th century bird’s eye view of Augsburg lists most important buildings in the city.
The wood-cut was published in La Cosmographie universelle de tout le monde by François de Belleforest in 1575 in Paris. This rare work was a French version of Sebastian Munster’s Cosmographia, first issued in 1544. The book described all the known parts of the world and included wood-cut maps and images of mayor European cities and the known other parts of the world. Belleforest’s version included revised images, with clearer, more elegant lines.
