Description

This is the first translation of a widely popular novel, Les aventures de Télémaque, fils d’Ulysse to modern Bulgarian. It was published in Istanbul, where this novel, set on the border of the East and Orient, appealed to the readers, especially those with a connection with the French language. In the 19th century several edition of the novel were made to Ottoman, as well as to Rumanian and Serbian.

The first translation was made in Bulgarian by P. G. Pipérov already in 1845, but the language used was old-fashioned and the translator tried to emphasise the moral and educational aspect of the story.

This translation by Nikola Michaïlovski uses for the first time fluent, contemporary Bulgarian.
