Don Carlos María Isidro Benito de Borbón y Borbón-Parma (1788–1855) was the second surviving son of King Charles IV of Spain and his wife, Maria Luisa of Parma, as well as a Carlist claimant to the throne of  Spain. He died in 1855 while in exile in Trieste. His funeral ceremony took place from March 12 to 31, 1855, and was attended by the public.

The first image presents the deceased’s body surrounded by candles and mourners at Palazzo Gossleth-Borbone, his final residence.

The second lithograph depicts Carlos’s funeral held in the chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo within the Trieste Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Justus.

The author Vincenzo Poiret(1813-1867) was of French origins, born in Trieste. He is today mostly known for his work in Zadar and illustrations of Croatian towns and

The lithographs were sold separately (Contemporary list of published prints in Austria Österreichische Blätter für Literatur und Kunst, 1855, p. 302, only mentions the first one) and are very rare. We could trace two institutional examples of each print, housed by the National Library of Spain (OCLC 1224984593, 1202780332, 1202777084) and University Library in Trieste.
