A large poster, attractively printed in black and red offset lithograph in the late 1940s in Bosnia, advertises Labour’s Day, May 1st, one of the most important holidays in Socialistic Yugoslavia.

The program starts at the early hour of 4.30 in the morning and includes organising working brigades, sport competition and football. In the years after WWII Yugoslavia was known for its sportsmen, who were achieving awards worldwide. Schools, firms and factories were organising free sport courses and camps in order to keep people on the straight and narrow.

The map is not dated, but had to be printed in the second half of the 1940s, just after the WWII, when so called working brigades – groups of young men and women from all over Yugoslavia were mobilised to undeveloped areas, to build roads and buildings. The poster is printed in Latin and Cyrillic script, and was made in and for a town Brcko in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the border with Croatia, not far away from Serbian border.
